Guided Kayaking Eco Tours -

Ketchikan Kayak Co. offers daily guided kayaking eco-tours in Clover Pass. This is an excellent area with several rainforest islands, about 15 miles north of town. We'll get you away from the masses as we paddle down Sea Star Alley, then around Eagle Ketchikan kayak sea starIsland, as well as Clover Island. Depending on the tide, there is excellent sea star (starfish) and tidal life viewing, and two eagles' nests we'll view up close along the way. The Tongass National Forest, the largest National Forest in the U.S., surrounds all the area.

Transportation from your cruise ship/hotel, and excellent gear is provided. After gearing up at our facility and a quick lesson, you'll board your kayak while dry docked. We then slide you into the water, and your nature viewing will begin. Sea lions, seals, lots of eagles and other birds, and a huge variety of tidal life inhabit this area, and your tour starts with a paddle down the wall of sea stars. With Starfish kayakingour dramatic tide swings this large wall becomes exposed and all its residents are eye level to the kayaker. Sea stars, urchins, sea cucumbers, limpets, chitons, nudibranchs, etc. are all clung to the wall, waiting for the tide to return. We take the time to show you the different critters and what they're doing there. All five kinds of pacific salmon come through this pass, and they often jump all around your kayak. Very neat to see.

Your nature viewing eco-tour continues as we paddle around Eagle Island, and view its large nest with resident adults, and young eagles in later summer. Continuing around Clover Island, we'll view another eagle's nest, and some Green Anemonegreat tide zones along the rainforest shoreline. There's even a rope swing if you just have to swim! The tour concludes with us kayaking back through the local Alaskan fishing boats in the marina where we began.
